Why is a person safe from lightning inside a car that has a metal body?
Hi, i’m doing physics right now and I was wondering why a person is safe from lightning inside a car that has a metal body?

Some people think that it’s because cars have rubber tires, but they’re incorrect. The voltage built up in the clouds is so great that it was able to jump through the air (which has a very high resistance to electrical current) all the way down to the ground. A little tire isn’t going to stop it from getting through your car because it could simply go from the bottom of your car to the ground (through the air).
The real reason why you’re say is because metal is a very good conductor, and lightning takes the path of least resistance. Since you and the air inside of your car have such a high resistance compared to the metal outside of your car, the lightning just goes around you and through the metal frame of the car.
