is a digital tuner needed in a plasma with full High Definition already?

i want to buy this dvd recorder and there are 2 types: one with digital tuner, the other with no digital tuner.
does the digital tuner make the picture any clearer?

The digital tuner is for picking up a digital signals over the air. So you would have to buy an antenna that picks up that signal. I bet it says ATSC on it. Yes the tuner would make for a good picture with an antenna.
